WEATHER CONDITIONS
Overall, the 2020 harvest was a success, despite the fact that drought-like conditions persisted throughout the season and average maximum temperatures were slightly higher than in 2019. It should be noted that no precipitation fell during the ripening stage for this vintage.
Despite the capricious weather conditions during the 2020 grape harvest, excellent vineyard management was achieved thanks to the expertise of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild grape growers and winemakers, together with suitable irrigation techniques and correct predictions on harvest dates. In the end, the balance between aromatics, structure, and elegance on the palate showcases the terroir in all its qualities.
MATURING
In order to give the wine its fruit driven, complex style, the 70 of the vintage is matured in old oak French barrels for 10 months before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
ASPECT
Lovely, brilliant, intense ruby red colour with purple highlights.
NOSE
Very intense, laden with red wild berries like rosehip and Chilean guava that give way to plum and cherry, with nicely integrated notes of toffee and black tobacco imparted by ageing in French oak.
PALATE
Starts out fresh and juicy. Delicious acidity on the palate, refreshing and rich, with a good sensation of volume. The structure is elegant despite noticeable tannins, and the finish is long and very persistent. The wine reveals the potent, elegant character of Chilean Carignan from the coastal dryland vineyards of the Maule Valley (Secano Costero).

WEATHER CONDITIONS
2021 was a good vintage overall.
The weather conditions were very varied, with some precipitation in summer, but without causing too many vine health complications. Temperatures were fairly variable, with a warm January and a cooler than average February and March compared to previous years, followed by a warm April.
Véraison (colour change) stretched over a long period, but it concluded with very even results and the maturation period was slow, conducive to the development of aromas and the concentration of the grapes.
In short, 2021 was not such an easy year weather-wise, yet excellent vineyard management was achieved thanks to the expertise of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild grape growers and winemakers, together with suitable irrigation techniques and choosing to harvest at precisely the right time. In the end, the balance between good structure and elegance on the palate truly showcases the terroir.
